Rantz: King County inclusivity training mandates staff help criminal illegal immigrants

As unvetted migrants continue to stream across the southern border, they’ll be welcome in King County.

Training documents by the King County Department of Equity and Social Justice (KCESJ) instruct county staff to help illegal immigrants escape the consequences of criminal behavior. This policy is promoted in the name of inclusivity.

In order to comply with radical county legislation, which doubles down on the state’s sanctuary status, law enforcement and other employees may not agree to most requests to transfer custody of dangerous illegal immigrants, accused of crimes like rape or kidnapping, to federal authorities. In fact, neither staff nor contractors may offer any assistance in helping enforce immigration laws.

County wants to be inclusive of criminal illegal immigrants

Russia’s war on Ukraine took the spotlight off the country’s porous southern border. Migrants continue to enter this country illegally thanks to the Biden administration’s open-border policies. It has resulted in historic numbers of illegal border crossings.

If the migrants are looking for a county that will allow them to stay in this country illegally, King County wants them to know they’re welcome. It’s why a number of county employees have reached out to the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH to sound the alarm with Code 2.15 training.

County Code 2.15 allows illegal immigrants access to all county services and programs. And they’re protected from cooperation with the federal government to the greatest extent of existing federal law.

“K.C.C. 2.15 reaffirms that King County is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive community for all,” one training document notes.

Code 2.15 training comes with a video introduction and a series of statements staff must label as true or false. All the statements are true.

“King County is committed to creating a welcoming community where every person can thrive,” KCESJ policy advisor Hamdi Mohamed says in a county training video.

Inexplicably, the county is welcoming to dangerous criminals. It does not differentiate between a mother fleeing her home country for a better life and a gang member and rapist.

County helps criminals evade deportation

Code 2.15 tells law enforcement that it is illegal to comply with most federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers.

Detainers are written requests from ICE for a law enforcement agency to hold a criminal illegal immigrant in custody for an extra 48 hours so that the federal government may take custody. These are illegal immigrants who have committed a crime beyond being in this country illegally and are subject to deportation.

Public Health — Seattle & King County also provides training to help protect illegal immigrants in the spirit of Code 2.15. The training offers videos implying ICE agents will lie and offer invalid warrants to arrest illegal immigrants at county health centers and offices.

In the last several years, there have been many high-profile incidents of state and county sanctuary laws protecting dangerous criminals.

They include Jose Ramirez Soto, who was arrested and booked into King County Jail for child molestation. He was convicted in 2018, and even though ICE submitted a detainer, the molester was released. Ramirez Soto was again arrested a year later for harassment and threats to kill.

King County teaches criminals to avoid arrest

The county mandates training for staff. But it also provides resources that teach criminal illegal immigrants how to avoid legal consequences.

Though county officials never refer to them as being in this country illegally, the resources make it clear that they know. On its website, King County officials unironically explain a criminal illegal immigrant’s “rights.” But it goes farther.

The KCESJ website promotes a nonprofit-run “text message system to alert families of confirmed federal immigration enforcement activity that may be happening in their community.”

The county provides a how-to guide by alt-weekly The Stranger titled, “How to prepare for ICE raids in Washington State.”

The article explains that, “If ICE is at your door: don’t open the door, remain quiet,” and if you’re an “ally” of illegal immigrants, to join a rapid response team to help during raids. It quotes an activist saying they “need bodies literally building defense lines” between illegal immigrants and ICE agents.

Why protect legitimate criminals?

I understand — and support — fighting for illegal immigrants like DREAMERs, who were brought to this country as children and know no other country, culture, or language. It seems needlessly cruel to even entertain the idea of deportation unless they are violent criminals.

But let’s not pretend the county is some paradigm of virtue because it chooses to treat that DREAMER the same as a drug-dealing gang member who is in this country illegally and killing people. They’re not the same. And advocates for immigrants should be offended that they’re being conflated.

You can protect one group while going after the other. So ask yourself why the county, and state, are protecting violent criminals.
